Set in the backdrop of the Rohingya Refugee Crisis in 2017, which continues to be relevant even today. We try to shed light on an issue that most countries are still ignoring. Young Robi comes from Myanmar to Assam seeking stability however ends up falling in love with an extremely passionate journalist Josna. Together they dream of an ideal world where love knows no boundaries. However, their love is tested by society at every point, and as we all know no love story is great if it doesn't have grave obstacles. We bring to you Daarye, an adaptation of the most famous play written by Shakespeare, Romeo, and Juliet. A short film made by students at Ashoka University, Young India Fellowship in the course Cinema and Communication under Professor and Filmmaker Anirban Datta. ✨ We tried to showcase a story highlighting the attempts made by people to bridge the void in them during the lockdown. Two of these people, Shome and Rose did so by the formation of a new friendship formed in otherwise unlikely circumstances. P.S this was shot during the Third Wave, and in different locations, so that piece of cloth really joined the two people cinematographically :)

Elderly queer people have been largely invisibilized across the world, and especially in a country like India. The factor of age brings in aspects such as health, and poverty due to the prolonged discrimination felt during a time when not just legally, but even socially LGBTQIA+ people were discriminated against and worse forgotten. For this purpose, students in the Young India Fellowship at Ashoka University wanted to use our resources to reach out to people within the elderly queer community and showcase their stories. After learning about the kind of struggles they’ve faced especially in light of the pandemic, we decided to start two fundraisers for organizations pertaining to both the women in the documentary. They are in dire need of resources, and any support would be greatly appreciated. We have added the links for fundraisers below and we request you to go through them and help us in creating awareness and help support them. This was an opportunity to study the intersection between not just age and queerness but also to delve into the intersections of religion, culture, caste as well as issues around politics, representation and policymaking.
